Bisexuality is a Queer Thing Indeed

Bisexuality is a confusing topic for everyone – even bisexuals! After struggling with bisexuality since his early teens, Mark finally came to identify as such in 2009, when he came out to his wife and family. He has been working with his fellow bisexuals, those questioning their sexuality, and the people who love us ever since. This talk will clarify issues around bisexuality, an orientation which continues to defy understanding for most—even among the LGBT crowd.
Some of the topics include:

  • who identifies as bisexual and who doesn’t, and why
  • commonly held misconceptions about bisexuality
  • unique challenges faced by bisexuals
  • the need to understand that sexuality is fluid, not set for life
  • bisexuality in relation to monogamy and non-monogamy

Sexual Fluidity: The Importance of Life-long Sexual Exploration

We all expect to grow and expand emotionally, intellectually, professionally, spiritually, inter-personally, but when it comes to sexuality, somehow this gets left off the list. In order to remain physically healthy and maintain emotionally satisfying relationships throughout our lives we must also tend to this inherent, vital aspect of our beings.
Some of the topics include:

  • the connection between personal sexual stagnation and relationship stagnation
  •  tackling the biggest fears about non-monogamy: abandonment; jealousy; dissolution
  • the risks, joys, challenges, and payoffs
  • legalities around polyamorous families

Consensual Non-monogamy as an Option

The idea of two people entering a room together in their twenties, locking the door and throwing away the key to their sexual lives forever does not sit well with everyone. Mark will discuss some of the many counter-intuitive findings he’s amassed in the five years since he and his partner have explored consensual non-monogamy.
Some of the topics include:

  • examining beliefs and myths around monogamy and non-monogamy
  • identifying the various forms of non-monogamy
  • the connection between personal sexual stagnation and relationship stagnation
  •  tackling the biggest fears about non-monogamy: abandonment; jealousy; dissolution
  • the risks, joys, challenges, and payoffs
  • legalities around polyamorous families

Confessions of a Bisexual Husband

Marks new book, Confessions of a Bisexual Husband, takes us into his intimate world of sexual exploration as he tries to solve the mystery of his lifelong struggle with bisexuality. After 15 years of marriage, two kids, and illicit experimentation with men behind his wife Gabrielle’s back, Marco confesses it all to her.

  • Excerpts from the book will be read
  • Discussion around topics in the book; bisexuality, nonmonogamy, sexual fluidity, relationships, marriage, desire, honesty

Bi, Hung, Fit…and Married

What are the connections between love, intimacy, and sex? Would you risk it all – your marriage, kids, social network – for authenticity?  In this risqué, autobiographical one-man show, Writer/Performer Mark Bentley Cohen explores the bounds of commitment, love, and acceptance.

  • Theatrical presentation 55 minutes, 20-30  minute Q&A following
  • Can be performed in a theatre or classroom setting
  • Minimal props required

Ongoing Groups

Men Exploring Sex and Intimacy is my newest Meetup group.

The focus of this group is to help men get comfortable with who they are. Masculine and feminine energies are a part of all of us, but as men we need to learn how to get in touch with our masculine energy and use it to enhance all aspects of our lives, including work, relationships, and sexual interaction.

This is a workshop-based group, where most meetings are experiential and transformative.

Couples Exploring Sex and Intimacy is a group with workshops and open discussion around sex and intimacy within a couple. More information coming, October, 2014.

Bisexuals in Vancouver is my social/support group for bisexuals and those who love us. We discuss issues which affect our lives, share experiences and stories, and learn how to deal with this often misunderstood, and much-maligned sexual orientation.

I volunteer at Qmunity, where I combine my facilitation of BiFocus, which is their bisexual social support group, with Bisexuals in Vancouver.

LOA Players is all about law of attraction, and how we use our thoughts to form the reality that we know. This is a metaphysical group with experiential workshops as well as open discussions.

I have presented to a variety of SAR trainings in Vancouver. I’m available to speak on such topics as bisexuality, consensual non-monogamy, alternative realtionships.

Please contact me for more information about workshop or group facilitation.
